The collective management organisation for copyright and related rights in audiovisual and photographic works in Cameroon.
A civil society serving image creators
The Société Civile de l’Art Audiovisuel et Photographique is the organisation responsible for the collective management of copyright and related rights in the audiovisual and photographic field in Cameroon. It acts on behalf of its members: directors, producers, screenwriters, photographers, performers and image technicians.
Why collective management?
No author can single-handedly monitor every use of their works, negotiate with every broadcaster, hotel or venue, or recover amounts that are modest when taken individually. Collective management solves this: the society negotiates once on behalf of the entire repertoire, collects globally, then distributes individually.
In return, users of works obtain from a single point of contact an authorisation covering the whole repertoire, instead of having to approach each rights holder.
The legal framework
Law No. 2000/011 of 19 December 2000 on copyright and related rights organises collective management in Cameroon by category of works. Each category falls to a society approved by the minister in charge of culture:
- Musical art — SOCAM
- Audiovisual and photographic art — SCAAP
- Literature and dramatic arts — SOCILADRA
- Plastic and graphic arts — SOCADAP
Our commitments
Collect rigorously, distribute fairly, report transparently. Applicable tariffs are public, distribution rules are voted in general assembly, and the society’s financial documents are published.
